Each year, EdTA members elect leaders to serve on the board of directors. The association’s nominating committee is currently accepting applications from prospective candidates for the 2023 board election.
Any EdTA professional member or Thespian troupe director is eligible to stand for election by filing a candidate vita form no later than October 7 at 11:59 p.m. PT. The nominating committee will select two to four candidates each for the two open seats, plus the vice president/president.
“EdTA is seeking leaders who are willing to dedicate their time and expertise to overseeing and creating governance policies that will impact the future of our organization,” said board President Helen Duranleau-Brennan. “These volunteer leaders further and fulfill the mission of the organization and serve the membership with their passion and skills. We invite these leaders to consider this commitment.”
EdTA has a governing board, which sets the organization’s strategic direction, protects its finances and reputation, enacts policies, and acts as ambassadors. Operations are managed by the executive director and staff. Board members must be comfortable making strategic and sometimes-difficult decisions that affect the entire membership.
The board’s past president chairs the nominating committee, which comprises board members, chapter leaders, and staff. The current committee includes:
- Past President Gai Laing Jones and Vice President Krista Carson Elhai
- Texas chapter director Amy Jordan and Indiana co-chapter director Ray Palasz
- At-large members Jerald Bolden of Sacramento, Ca. and Jade Lambert-Smith of East Point, Ga.
- Non-voting staff members Jennifer Katona, EdTA’s executive director, and Brian Monk, chief operating officer
President Helen Duranleau-Brennan is an ex officio member.
The 2023 election will be conducted online from January through March. The newly elected directors’ terms will begin July 1.
