Schools in Alabama, Colorado, Massachusetts, Missouri, and Texas have been awarded free licenses to produce the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 2018.
The show is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. To honor this milestone, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, and The Musical Company (TMC) teamed up with the Educational Theatre Association to grant five in-need schools a free standard rental and royalty license to produce this iconic family favorite.
In announcing the winners, Kim Rogers, Vice President of Amateur Licensing at TMC, said: “We are delighted to partner with EdTA in honoring the 50th anniversary of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. TMC is thrilled by the opportunity to foster theatre education by providing this grant to such extraordinarily deserving schools. I have no doubt that these productions will have a positive impact for years to come.”
One of the most enduring shows of all time, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a reimagining of the Biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors, told entirely through song with the help of a Narrator.
To win the grant schools that would not otherwise have had access to the resources needed to stage the production had to submit a 500-word essay about why they wanted to do the production in their school. The winning schools are:
Thomasville High School – Thomasville, AL (Thespian Troupe 5073)
Middle Park High School – Granby, CO (Thespian Troupe 1996)
James J. Chittick Elementary School – Boston, MA
Webster Groves High School – St. Louis, MO (Thespian Troupe 191)
Five Palms Elementary – San Antonio, TX
