The Ohio Arts Council has awarded EdTA a $20,000 grant to support an association initiative to expand access to theatre education programming in Ohio schools.

This fall, EdTA will prototype a “World Drama Club” designed to help students achieve cultural competence, improve social/emotional learning, and develop student leadership skills through theatrical learning. The prototype will target students in schools without arts programming, home-schooled or virtual school students, and students in geographically diverse rural and urban areas — audiences not served by the traditional troupe structure of the association’s International Thespian Society.

“EdTA’s vision is that every student will have access to theatre taught by qualified educators as a vital part of a well-rounded education,” said Chief Membership Officer Hans Weichhart. “We’re grateful to the Ohio Arts Council for giving EdTA this grant to help us provide more access to Ohio students.”

Thanks to this grant, over 400 students in Ohio Title I schools will be able to participate in programming at no cost.

EdTA is currently seeking a part-time adviser to work with the students enrolled in this prototype project. If you’re interested, consider applying online.
