A Texas school board voted to reinstate the original cast and script of a local high school’s production of “Oklahoma!” after the school district put restrictions in place for the performance that a parent said cost his transgender student a role in the play.
The initiative from the Educational Theatre Association, Disney Theatrical Group, and Music Theatre International will see schools competing for their state's exclusive performing rights to the Disney musical.
This year’s festival will be in-person for the first time since 2019.
