2020 Amy Bennett Musical Theatre Scholarship Awarded to Sophia Hillman

EdTA annually awards this scholarship to a graduating senior entering a college program to major in musical theatre. This year’s recipient is Sophia Hillman of Olathe North High School in Olathe,Kansas,home of Thespian Troupe 3310.

Hillman was inducted into the International Thespian Society, in 2017. She served her troupe as secretary and president. Recently, Hillman played Mama Murphy in Bright Star after directing Elf the Musical for her troupe. She performed in 29 productions during her school career.

Hillman plans to attend Wichita State University this fall, pursuing a BFA in musical theatre. She says, “Theatre is the perfect platform where anyone and everyone can be accepted, challenged, and loved. I intend on using my education and training to assist and empower young scholars who are underserved. Everyone has the potential to have an impact on the world, I aspire to do this through theatre and community connections.”

The scholarship is funded by the Amy Bennett Foundation Inc. a non-profit established in 2014 in memory of Amy Bennett, a Thespian alum of troupe 7070.
