Teacher scholarship available for voice conference

February 14, 2013

The Voice and Speech Trainers Association (VASTA) is offering one scholarship to a middle or high school theatre educator to cover the cost of attending their conference in Minneapolis, July 28-August 1, 2013. Voices of Wisdom: Spanning Generations, to be held at the Guthrie Theatre, will focus on vocal skills and how they impact theatre knowledge, production, and pedagogy. The conference will also offer opportunities to explore collaborations and build community across the generations of career voice trainers.

An international organization, VASTA’s mission is to practice and encourage the highest standard of voice and speech use and artistry in all professional and educational arenas, serve the needs of voice and speech teachers and students, and encourage and facilitate ongoing education and information exchange.

VASTA will pay up to $500 toward airfare and wave the $260 conference fee for the selected teacher. Any middle school or high school theatre educator can apply. Interested applicants should write an email letter of interest to Rena Cook stating why this opportunity would be of value and how it would help meet personal and teaching goals. Applications must include the name and location of the applicant’s school, mailing and email address, and phone number. The application deadline is March 1, 2013. The winner will be notified by March 15.  For more information go to vasta.org.
