Whatever role you play in theatre education, there’s a place for you in the Educational Theatre Association community.
Thespian and Junior Thespian troupe directors, theatre educators, teaching artists, administrators, advocates, and others join as professional members, a membership type that includes specialized subgroups ranging from the discounted pre-professional membership for college students to emeritus memberships for retired teachers.
High school theatre students earn membership in a Thespian troupe at their school, part of EdTA’s International Thespian Society, which has been honoring student achievement in theatre for more than eighty years. Each troupe is led by a Thespian troupe director, usually a theatre teacher at the school, who is granted professional member status in EdTA for the duration of his or her leadership of the troupe.
Middle school students can work toward membership in the Junior Thespian troupe at their school. Junior Thespians offer programs and activities specifically tailored to the needs of younger students.
