Tech Challenge

Tech Challenge offers theatre technicians a chance to show their stuff at the Festival. Any troupe, group of troupes, or chapter may register a team for Tech Challenge. Each team must have five to seven team members with at least two members of each gender.

Teams will participate in challenge tasks at five different stations. The stations could include knot tying, light focus, prop shift, costume change, sound execution, or stage management.

Tech Challenge allows team members to demonstrate their proficiency in meeting the kinds of challenges that are encountered in a production environment. Participants are evaluated on accuracy, speed, and efficiency. Additional discretionary points may be awarded (or subtracted) by the judges for creativity, ingenuity, teamwork, etc.

The top two Tech Challenge teams will be invited to serve as the running crew for the 2012 National Individual Events Showcase.

The 2012 Tech Challenge will accommodate up to thirty teams in a five-hour period. The first thirty teams to submit the application and payment will be selected to participate.

The 2012 Tech Challenge will be $100 and will include the following events:

1. Lighting:  Hanging And Focusing a Source 4 (individual event)
2. Costumes: Quick Change (pair event)
3. Stagecraft: Knot Tying (individual event)
4. Sew a Button (individual event)
5. Scenery: Leg a Platform (Pair Event)
6. Mystery Event: Mystery event will be one of the following:
   1. Crew: Prop Shift: Strike and Set Up Props (Pair Event)
   2. Stage Management:  Tape Out a Ground Plan (team event)
   3. Scenery: Folding a Theatrical Backdrop (Team Event)
   4. Sound System Setup (Pair Event)
   5. Lighting: Cable Roll Up Relay (Team Event)
