2012 Professional Development Opportunities
Professional Development opportunities are separate, six-hour intensives that are available for an additional cost. PDIs will be held on Thursday, September 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, September 23 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Thursday PDI sessions
- Viewpoints, Richard Hess, University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music
- “Reviving Student Learning Through Theatre C.P.R.” Joe Burnsworth, Assistant Superintendent, Virginia Beach City Public Schools, and Sharon Bowers, National Institute of Aerospace
- Using the Camera as a Teaching Tool in the Classroom and Beyond. Richard Robichaux, actor, teacher.
- Teaching improv as a "real" and rigorous class / curriculum. Christa Whitaker, teacher
Sunday PDI sessions
- Raising the Curtain-21ST Century Skills-Bloom’s Taxonomy-Project Based Experiences. Gai Jones, teacher, actor.
- Directing Techniques; Targeted Theatre Exercises for the Classroom and Beyond. Old Globe San Diego
- Incorporating Playwriting into the Curriculum. Stephen Gregg and Lindsay Price, playwrights.
- Creating a Technical Theatre Course— complete with curriculum and CTE standards. Kirsten Giard, Valhalla HS Theatre Director.
Note: lunch is included as part of the PDI.
Graduate and continuing education credits are available.
