Working professionals talk about their jobs

Over a three-year period beginning in the spring of 2005, scenic carpenter and theatrical electrician Mike Lawler interviewed friends and colleagues in theatres around the United States about their work. The interviews became a series of articles in Dramatics about design and production specialties, each profile an up-close look at how professional designers and theatre technicians do their jobs.

Ultimately Lawler used the series, which is reproduced here, as the basis for the book, Careers in Technical Theatre, published by Allworth Press. For a taste of the various technical theatre job descriptions, see below. For more material on each job title, check out the book.
