This past weekend I attended my state festival! The theme this year was Candy Land and the festival ran from early Friday morning through Saturday night. When I arrived, I immediately began getting ready for our opening ceremony, in which I portrayed the role of Mr. Mint. I also had the opportunity to greet more than six hundred Nebraska Thespians as their ITO. The rest of the day I helped Molly Grasso, the Nebraska Chapter Director, with various tasks such as announcements and being a runner for IE's.
On Saturday I gave two forty-five minute sessions of my workshop. They gave me an eight person conference room and for the first session I had thirty-eight people show up. We had to move out to the hallway. It was a great problem to have, and I was extremely thrilled. A total of fifty-five people came to the workshop. I got many compliments after both of the workshops, and many students told me what things they want to take back to their troupes and schools.
As a secondary project, I lead our state service project for BC/EFA. We were given many items that we coordinated into a silent auction, and we sold bracelets and ribbons. This was the first year in over a decade that Nebraska Thespians were able to do a fundraiser for BC/EFA, so I was very happy to help out in whatever way I could.
HIGHLIGHTS
- I received one of the state scholarships given out!
- While at the dance on Friday night, I lead the entire floor in "Thriller." It was quite exciting!
- The number of kids who wanted to know more info about ITO and Internationals was truly amazing. Many Nebraska troupe leaders don't bring kids to the Thespian Festival, and many students don't even know about it. I have taken it upon myself to educate and encourage them to come to Festival this summer.
