Texas Thespian Festival

I just got back from the Texas Thespian Festival!  I had an incredible time and got to meet some awesome people! I had the privilege of meeting members of their state board, including their chapter director, Mr. Hill. They were so sweet to me! I appreciate everything they do for Texas theatre students. They are so diligent and passionate about their jobs. It's infectious to everyone involved. I had the privilege of speaking at their opening ceremony, shadowing their state officers, and aiding them wherever necessary. I helped them teach their own leadership workshop called "True Colors." In this workshop all of the participants took a personality survey which determined which of the four colors they were. Each color represented a different personality, which affects the type of leader and actor they are. Some of you may have done something similar before. I found it very interesting. The whole point was to learn how to better your communication with the other personality types. It's a great way to see who works well together and how to change your ways of communication to get your points across to people with different colors. I'm a gold-blue! I encourage you to find a test like this and perform it with your troupe! You can even perform the survey as a character you may be playing. Great tool for script analysis and development!

I also had the opportunity to help lead a workshop on student advocacy. I cannot tell you how important of an issue advocacy is for high school theatre. Across the country programs are being cut, and it's our job to make sure people know the value and worth of these classes. If you follow the link below, there are ads you can place in your show programs. These ads contain facts and figures about theater education. Please take a moment and view them. There is also an "Advocacy Toolkit" available at the EdTA website.

Hope you are all doing well! Just want to let you guys know how appreciative I am of everything you guys do for Thespians across the world. Keep working hard! I feel so grateful to be apart of this incredible theatre community. Enjoy the holiday season!
