Yearning and Learning: Eric Booth on the Verbs of Art (Fall, 2007, Volume 19, Number 1) is the speech the author gave at the 2007 EdTA Conference. In it, Booth makes a persuasive case for how theatre nurtures creativity, innovation, and other key twenty-first-century workforce skills.
The Elephant in the Room, by Jill Dolan, (Teaching Theatre, Summer, 2008, Volume 19, Number 4) is an opinion piece in which the author argues that too many students training in higher education theatre programs are getting the wrong messages, prompting many to drop out or change their majors.
Why Study Theatre,by Louis E. Catron, (Spring, 1992, Volume 3, Number 3) details workplace and life skills learned by students who study theatre. Ahead of its time, this article is still a useful advocacy tool for students and teachers today.
The Winding Road to Reform, by Kent Seidel, (Fall, 2008, Volume 20, Number 1) looks back at the changes that have occurred in K-12 arts education in the last twenty years, the rise of the digital age, and the global economy. The author suggests that arts education organizations should revisit the arts standards and modify them to meet the needs of twenty-first century learners.
