Each year the Educational Theatre Association honors individuals, schools, and theatre programs that exemplify quality theatre arts education. Award programs are open to active members of the Educational Theatre Association and the International Thespian Society. (For information on the application process, see the Awards page.) Below are listings of the awards and the recipients. Congratulations to all of the honorees!

Educational Theatre Association Hall of Fame

This award recognizes EdTA members who have dedicated themselves to promoting educational theatre and who have given twenty or more years of service to this cause.

Founders’ Award

This award is presented annually by the executive director to an individual or group of individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and development of theatre education, research, and practice.

President’s Award

This award is given annually by the president of the governing board to an individual who has made exceptional contributions to the Association, president, governing board, or volunteer leadership. Prior to 1988 this was called the International Director’s Award.

This award recognizes companies or corporations that have made significant, continuous contributions to promoting and strengthening theatre education.

Outstanding School Award

EdTA annually recognizes a maximum of twelve high schools (up to three per region) whose theatre programs exemplify and promote high standards of quality in educational theatre.

Inspirational Theatre Educator Award

EdTA annually recognizes up to three individuals annually who have inspired their students and dedicated themselves to providing quality theatre education.

Honorary Thespian of the Year Award

This award recognizes individuals who have gone above and beyond the standard duties of a volunteer.

This award recognizes a student who goes above and beyond the call of duty and exemplifies the ideals of the International Thespian Society.

ITO/Jhon Marshall Outstanding Technical Student Achievement Award

This award honors a stage crew member who exemplifies Thespian Society ideals while working behind the scenes.
