TOTS-Eat: leading troupes, teams, and chapters honored

Three hundred thirty-three Thespian troupes in forty-one states collected 389,932 pounds of food in the 2013 Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat program, the International Thespian Society’s annual nationwide community service initiative to collect food for the hungry.

Here are this year’s TOTS-Eat award winners:

Troupe Awards

Cornucopia Award—Most total weight for a single troupe: Mission Viejo High School, Troupe 3060, Mission Viejo, California, 36,349 pounds

Cornucopia Award (team)—Highest average collection total per troupe on the team: Team GVHV, 9,479 total pounds, an average of 4,740 pounds collected per troupe on the team, which consists of Grain Valley R-V High School, Troupe 6557, Grain Valley, Missouri and Harrisonville High School, Troupe 1341, Harrisonville, Missouri.

Abundant Harvest Award—Greatest one-year increase in total collections by one troupe: By weight, Mission Viejo High School, Troupe 3060, Mission Viejo, California, 27,800-pound increase. Percentage increase, West Potomac High School, Troupe 1899, Alexandria, Virginia, 733 percent.

Harvest Excellence Award—Greatest total collection by a first-time participant: Madison Southern High School, Troupe 7909, Berea, Kentucky, 2,650 pounds

Community Spirit Award—First troupe registered: San Dieguito Academy, Troupe 2196, Encinitas, California

Community Spirit Award (team)—First team registered: Team Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Carolina Forest High School, Troupe 5964, St. James High School, Troupe 6984, Black Water Middle School, Troupe 88761

Silver Harvest Award—10,000 pounds or more collected by a single troupe: Kellam High School, Troupe 2326, Virginia Beach, Virginia, 12,308 pounds

Golden Harvest Award—15,000 pounds or more collected by a single troupe: Not awarded this year

Platinum Harvest Award—20,000 pounds or more collected by a single troupe: Alice High School, Troupe 5191, Alice, Texas, 35,119 pounds; Mission Viejo High School, Troupe 3060, Mission Viejo, California, 36,349 pounds

State Awards

Cornucopia Award—Most total weight for a chapter: Texas, 88,084 pounds, Div. 5, 46 troupes, Chapter Director Amy Jordan (Overall winner is not eligible for a division award.)
Division 1 (1-10 troupes registered): Virginia, 15,727 pounds, 7 troupes, Chapter Director Nancy Curtis
Division 2 (11-20 troupes registered): Georgia, 25,460 pounds, 19 troupes, Chapter Director Paul Hampton
Division 3 (21–30 troupes registered): California, 49,720 pounds, 21 troupes, Chapter Director Krista Carson Elhai
No awards were made in Divisions 4, 5, and 6 this year.

Outstanding Commitment Award—Greatest percent participation of active ITS troupes within a chapter: Kansas, 37 percent, Div. 3, Chapter Directors David Hastings and Steve Landes. (Overall winner is not eligible to win a division award.)
